Hey friends!
I got my hands on a 2nd Gen 4Runner roughly 8 months ago. She needs a lot of TLC.
I've just started my hobbyist mechanic journey and welcome any help/suggestions you may have.
One big issue that has come up recently is that there's constant condensation on ALL the windows.
1) Rear defrost doesn't work despite the switch light coming on. I've noticed the bands in the back have some serious abrasion at the bottom, and I'm assuming that's where the circuit is being broken. How would you suggest fixing the abrasion? Or would I have to get a replacement rear-defrost-band array?
2) Windshield defrost is spotty at best, even after 20mins of driving. Getting good heat, but little to no air comes out of the defrost vents. It all comes out the face and side vents. The blower sounds like its working fine at all settings so I'm assuming the air passages are plugged up somewhere. What would be the proper way to gain access to and clean those passages out?
Would appreciate any help with this.
More questions to come I'm sure. She's a project!
Thank you
Whats going on adam? First off congratulations on the purchase. Now about that moisture. I'd make sure no water is leaking into the cab. Carpets are dry ect.
Check the door seals and sunroof seal.
I've even went as far as to put 3mm insulation on the inside of the door panel which also acts as a moisture barrier.
Now about the defrost vents not letting to much air through.
Do you have a dashmat? It might be blocking a portion of the vents?
Maybe get a air gun and back flow the vents and see if you get and debris back into the blower fan behind the glove box.
Make sure you flip the fresh air/air recirculation switch on the climate control panel when blowing air back through.
And about the rear defrost. To be honest I've never messed with it. Never needed it due to I can't see through my tire and carrier lol. I might have to look into that.
